🤖 Hack With Us

We hosted our very own internal Hackathon. It aimed to foster innovative ideas and promote a strong corporate culture. The goal was to engage our employees in a time-bound competitive event that drives innovation and promotes skill development.

💻 Why did we host the GeekyAnts Hackathon?

We are a social-first, community-driven company committed to fostering innovations and solving problems. Hackathons are a great way to crowdsource ideas and solve problems. While they are often associated with application or website development, they are also a great source to bring like-minded people together. A hackathon brings together teams of individuals from a community or company to resolve a specific problem or innovate around a central topic.

The goal of our Hackathon was to:

  1. Promote collaboration and employee engagement
  2. Spark innovation, especially among freshers and interns
  3. Foster creativity and out-of-the-box thinking
  4. Motivate them to break the mundane work chain
  5. Hackathons are fun!

🏃🏻 Choose Your Tool and Get Started

The GeekyAnts Hackathon was hosted on October 1, 2022, at our Bangalore HQ, with an aim to build a full-stack application out of the 5 problem statements given to the participants. Our Geeks were expected to find a solution for the problem statement using React, Flutter, React Native, Postgres or Laravel as per their knowledge-level, skills, and convenience.

📝 The Structure of the GeekyAnts Hackathon

We kick-started the event with high-spirits and lots of coffee and introduced the participants to the mentors of the various tech stacks. It was a 12-hour-hybrid Hackathon in which our Geeks could flexibly participate either in teams or individually. After establishing the rules and communicating the problem statement(s), our Geeks dived right into the competition.

🔍 List of Problem Statements

🔧 Problem Statement 1 - To build a full-stack Group Chat Application similar to Slack or MS teams where users can chat on different topics.

🔧 Problem Statement 2 - Create a full stack Rich-text Editor Application to build any type of rich text input, that supports a few inline text styles or build a complex text editor to compose long-form articles.

🔧 Problem Statement 3 - To create a full stack Resume Builder Application that can help users create professional and eye-catchy resumes.

🔧 Problem Statement 4 - Build a full-stack Collaborative tool that allows you to store, edit, and share documents with your team members like Google Docs, Figma, etc.

🔧 Problem Statement 5 - Create a Face Recognition Application to match the facial features which are extracted from all the images present in the database. The system should be able to detect the individual face. And also, the face of the person will be compared to the other faces in the system's database.

👾 Hacking and More

With some informal breaks, networking, food, and drinks, our participants did not just code but also had a ball. The on-hand availability of mentors to talk to through slack channels, DMs, and in-person ensured a smooth flow of the event. Sanket Sahu, CEO, Atul Ranjan, Director of Learning & Development, and Saurabh Sahu, CTO never missed an opportunity to motivate our participants. They had their backs throughout the event as technical experts and tied the entire event together.

💪 It’s Show Time

A fun and filled Hackathon is incomplete without our participants flexing their end-projects and presentations. After an insightful demo session, the winners were announced, followed by a closing event. The participants did an amazing job and to our surprise, there was a tie. The winning teams are Team-1, Tarun Soni, Simranjit Singh, Shivam K, Aanchal Goyal, Aditya Prakash, and Rati Agarwal, and Team-2, Hemanth Kumar B, Devanshi Garg, and Vishal Singh.

Team 1 worked on a Resume builder - CVBuddy.

CVBuddy can churn out clean-looking professional CVs in a matter of minutes.

The resume builder was built using React Native for the frontend, along with NativeBase, and Laravel was used for the backend.

Team 2 built a Google Doc-like Collaborative tool.

Working remotely can be hard for the entire team. But that's the case now, and it would never have been possible had it not been for collaborative tools like Google Docs. The tool makes it amazingly easy to collaborate over the internet and work with the same efficiency. The tool was built using Flutter for the frontend and Firebase for the backend.
