About the Client

Trovey, an Australian travel and localย  travel discovery platform takes a different approach from conventional review sites and booking marketplaces by putting digital brochures created by local operators at the centre of discovery.
Travellers can explore local experiences through those brochures, save places and activities to their Trove, organise itineraries and travel documents, and follow direct booking or contact links. For local operators, the platform provides a dedicated space to present their business in their own voice rather than competing primarily through ratings or marketplace listings.

About the project

Overview

Trovey wanted to move the travel brochure from print to a digital product without turning it into a review or booking marketplace.
The travel platform development needed to serve two main groups: travellers looking for local experiences and operators creating the brochures used to present those experiences. It also needed tools for designers, administrators and platform management.
The work covered three application surfaces: traveller mobile, traveller web and admin/operator web. These surfaces use one shared backend and API contract.
The product includes brochure creation and viewing, location-based discovery, Trove, itinerary planning, DocBox, subscriptions, payments, analytics, notifications and content controls.

Business Requirement

Traditional Paper brochures have limits. Difficult to update, do not support media or user actions and provide little information about how travellers use them.ย
Trovey wanted a digital version of this format that local operators could create and manage. The product also needed to give travellers one place to discover experiences, save ideas, plan trips and keep travel documents within the digital brochure platform.
The same content had to work across web and mobile. Trovey also needed subscriptions, payments, user roles, approvals, analytics, notifications and admin controls to run the platform.

Key Requirements

Build a cross-platform mobile application and traveller web app for discovering, saving, and organising local experiences
Build an operator and admin web application for digital brochure creation, content approvals, subscriptions, and platform management
Develop a shared backend to support traveller mobile, traveller web, and admin/operator web through one API contract
Create a multi-page digital brochure editor with text, images, video, audio, shapes, templates, history, and export
Enable location-based discovery using suburbs, localities, postcodes, coordinates, and proximity
Add Trove, itinerary planning, DocBox, and direct booking or contact links for travellers
Support subscription plans, payments, user roles, analytics, notifications, CMS management, and audit logs
Carry out cross-platform testing across brochure creation, subscriptions, geolocation, access controls, and key traveller flows

Build a Travel Platform That Connects Discovery, Planning, and Local Experiences

Solution

GeekyAnts built Trovey as a travel discovery and trip planning platform across traveller mobile, traveller web, and an admin/operator web app. The platform included a custom brochure editor, a cross-platform brochure viewer, location-based search & discovery, itinerary planning, subscriptions, payments, and content management, all connected through one backend and API contract.
Delivery was organised across 10 sprints or milestones, with work grouped by feature area and adjusted around dependencies. The team moved from the shared platform foundation to brochure creation and viewing, discovery and trip planning, subscription and admin tools, and cross-platform testing before release.

Challenges we Solved

The brochure editor needed to support layers, media, text, templates, undo and redo, and autosave history inside the browser. We used Konva to manage the canvas and editing controls. Mobile brochure rendering slowed when too many live components were loaded, so visual content was moved to canvas snapshots with interactive elements placed as overlays. Australian locality data also made exact address matching unreliable. Geocoding, caching, and PostGIS spatial queries were used for region and proximity search. Subscription upgrades, downgrades, and add-ons required different billing rules. Template access also had to stay aligned with Standard and Premium subscription tiers.

Our Approach

The project ran across 10 sprints or milestones, with work grouped by feature area. The team worked across mobile development, web development, and backend engineering. The work covered the shared platform foundation, brochure creation, traveller discovery, trip planning, subscriptions, admin tools, and release testing. The order changed where feature dependencies required it.
  • This workstream focused on setting up the shared structure for Troveyโ€™s three applications. It included the TypeScript monorepo, shared packages, backend modules, authentication, API generation, and CI checks. The traveller mobile app, traveller web app, and admin/operator web app were connected through one backend and API contract.

Results

Trovey is a digital brochure platform that serves both operators and travellers.
Operators build multi-page brochures with text, media, templates, layers and user actions. They manage that content in the same platform that handles subscriptions, approvals and administration.
Travellers find local experiences by location, open the brochures operators publish, save what they like to Trove, build itineraries and store travel documents in DocBox.
The traveller mobile app, traveller web app and admin/operator platform run on one backend and one generated API contract. Shared packages carry the common logic across all three surfaces.
The result is the product Trovey set out to build: a travel discovery service built on content from local operators, paired with planning tools for travellers.
